Andrea Copeland-Whitsett is a native of Charlottesville with a background in education. She loves teaching people and watching them learn. She has worked in all school settings, from preschool to college and all grades in between. She is currently the Director of Member Education Services, overseeing the Chamber’s signature program, Leadership Charlottesville, as well as the Chamber Business Academy, and is the Chamber liaison for the Chamber Business Diversity Council and Leadership Charlottesville Alumni Association. She also has founded Positive Channels, a company with a mission to use the power of the media for good. Through Positive Channels, she has interviewed, covered, worked with and met some high profile figures including President Obama, the Dalai Lama, Star Jones, Sean Penn, civil rights icons Ernie Green, Julian Bond, John Lewis, and more. Andrea was featured in the May 2014 issue of O Magazine. This was a tremendous honor for her as Oprah Winfrey has been one of her biggest role models. She is active in her church, Faith Christian Center International, and comes a from a very close-knit family.

Andrea is currently on the Board of Directors for CIC and has also served as a Discussion Leader for the Entrepreneur Training Workshop. Andrea’s advice to CIC entrepreneurs is to stay the course. If opening and running your business has been easy for you, you’re not doing something right. See the challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than you failing or struggling. Be sure to have a mentor, someone who is successful in business so they can walk you through the ups and downs of starting and running a business. Celebrate your successes, since there are challenges that come with being an entrepreneur. Sometimes it’s easier to get caught up in where we’ve missed it rather than where we’ve been successful.

Thank you, Andrea, for your support of CIC!
